Hosted by the Petrovaradin fortress of Novi Sad this amazing event brings more than 200 000 people all around the world (what is an almost whole population of the city). Beer is cheap, ladies are great, the experience is unforgettable. The venue is split into 20+ stages where music lovers can find what is suiting best for them (House, Rock, Hip Hop, psy trance…). The hospitality of local people can be measured in liters of homemade rakija. Typically people will say:” what happened on Exit stays on Exit” but the real deal is “what happened on Exit no one remember”.( gotta check the Instagram story). Line up for 2017 you can find here and tickets you can buy here. For accommodation, check baba Milunka gives a nice discount at Detelinara place.
Rakijada u Pranjanima or Unofficial World championship in drinking Rakija. As you already know Rakija is holly Slavic drink. Used as an alternative medicine for thousands of years this C2H5Oh product gives u strength and health. The festival started as a dispute between son in law and father in law. Both of them claimed they can drink more Rakija and thus this festival was founded. The strongest ones (once per year) compete their livers in this extraordinary competition in central Serbia. Divided into two groups these remarkable athletes resist the gravity laws and try to write the history. Competition is based on Last Man Standing rule and no children allowed. The biggest obstacle in organizing this type of events are usually wives of contestants who distract them and treat them with expelling from a house.
Date: Begging of May each year.
Guca 9th-13th of August– A well-known trumpet festival in Guča represents a combination of Exit festival and Rakijada. This traditional festival ages as far as 1961 when couple of orchestras from Dragačevo gathered together and competed against each other to determine which orchestra is the best one. Fast forward decades later, the number of bands expanded exponentially, alongside with number of visitors. Today an average number of visitors is around 1 000 000 in a village that numbers only 2 000 citizens. If you met Serbs somewhere you can be sure in three things: 1.Serbs are loud, 2.We drink a lot Rakija 3. We eat a lot. The combination of all three can be found right there in Guča. A good music, a good food, and of course good party. All the bands and orchestras that are competing are playing on the main stage, but if you’re bored (which is highly unlikely) you can visit a party inside a tent, where you can eat, drink and be wild all night. So if you’re a fan of all of these Guča festival is a must go.
Mudijada 30th of August –1st September- weird food comes in all shapes and sizes, and one man’s delicacy is another man’s explosive vomiting. The Mud(r)ijada festival is weird but tasty festival annually happening in Lipovica. This competition is a gourmet challenge for both contesters and visitors. A Mud(r)ijade is actually competition in making testicles of various animals into an edible food. If you think you’ll pass it just because you saw Bear Grills spilling his guts out in his famous tv show, you’re making a huge mistake. Since 2004 the number of competitors is increasing and last year there were over 150 teams from Serbia, USA, South Korea, Hungary, Brazil, Denmark, Bulgaria etc. So 150 teams x 2 testicles = 300 reasons to visit this festival. The best part of it is that you can enjoy in every single meal completely free and as always a couple of Rakijas. So grow a pair and book your ticket.
