Welcome to the Metropolitanate Day of the Metropolitanate of Australia and New Zealand of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
According to the ancient custom of the Orthodox Church each diocese celebrates as its own patron saint the one by which its bishop received his monastic name. Thus, in Australia and New Zealand, now for the fifth consecutive year we celebrate Saint Irenaeus of Lyon as our Patron Saint.
The Dioceses of Australia and New Zealand firstly celebrated Saint Irenaeus of Lyon as their Patron Saint four years ago in Adelaide, followed by Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. Next celebration will be held in Perth, Western Australia, the home of about 14,500 people of Serbian origin.
